Philadelphia Extreme Makeover Dentist Kaffey, DDSWith the advancements that have been made in aesthetic dentistry, it has never been easier, more convenient or more comfortable to have a beautiful, healthy smile. Even the most comprehensive procedures can be completed in two to three visits.

What is a Smile Makeover?

Quite simply, a smile makeover is the complete transformation of your smile. Crooked teeth can be straightened. Missing teeth can be replaced. Worn or chipped teeth can be restored. Stained teeth can be whitened. Ugly silver-mercury amalgams can be replaced with natural-looking restorations. Gaps between teeth can be closed. Gums can be contoured to reveal more of your teeth, reducing the appearance of a gummy smile. Almost anything is possible.

What will my new smile look like?

That's the number one question on everyone's mind. But don't worry. You don't have to wait until the procedure is over to see your new smile. Thanks to advances in computer technology and 3-D models, we are able to show you a preview of your new smile before the procedure begins.

Through digital imaging software, we can manipulate a digital photograph of your existing smile and show you your redesigned smile. This is an excellent way to put your fears to rest.

Will my smile fit me?

Like you, your smile is unique. Dr. Kaffey takes great care in designing a smile that complements you. We take a series of facial measurements, Radiographs and impressions of your teeth to help us create a smile that is in proportion to your bone structure, age, and gender. We want your smile to enhance your appearance and look completely natural.

What can be done if I have stained or discolored teeth?

We offer two options for whitening your smile. For a quick, effective and convenient treatment, ask about our in-office Power Whitening. In only one to three visits, you'll have a whiter, brighter smile. Or, if you prefer to whiten in the privacy of your own home and when it's most convenient for you, we offer Opalesence take-home whitening trays. Custom-made to fit your teeth, these trays are filled with a prescription level whitening gel, then worn for about 1/2 an hour each day for a week. At the end of that time, you can have a smile that's up to 8 shades whiter!

What do you use to fill cavities?

At Main Line Dental Aesthetics, we practice metal-free dentistry. We restore teeth to health and replace failing metal amalgams with natural looking, strong and safe porcelain inlays and onlays. We also offer the convenience and advantage of CEREC® technology. With CEREC, we can custom create your restoration on-site, so even the most complicated restorative procedure can be completed in only one appointment.

What are crowns?

A crown, also called a cap, is a custom-made restoration that repairs and strengthens a tooth that has fractured, has a large cavity, has an old filling that has failed, or has had root canal therapy.

Custom made to perfectly fit your tooth, a crown is made of porcelain for strength, endurance and appearance. It completely covers the tooth, restoring strength and protecting the tooth. Crowns can also be used for cosmetic purposes, enhancing the appearance of a tooth that is discolored or misshapen.

Unlike other practices that require two appointments and temporary crowns, we offer CEREC technology. With CEREC, Dr. Kaffey can create and permanently seat your final porcelain crown in one convenient appointment.

What is bonding?

Bonding is a method of enhancing your smile to white, attractive beauty. The process simply entails placing a bonding material (plastic) to your tooth, and sculpting it to the desired shape. Bonding can be completed in only one visit and is used to solve a variety of problems. Bonding can:

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom made, tooth colored porcelain sheets designed to cover the front of your tooth or teeth. Completed in only two appointments, porcelain veneers can give you a beautiful, youthful smile. They can:

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is the invisible way to strengthen your teeth without braces. Dr. Kaffey will use 3-D computer technology to create your customized aligners that fit around your teeth without braces. You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move, gradually, each week, until they move into the final alignment as prescribed. Total treatment time averages nine to 15 months and the average number of aligners worn is between 18 and 30, but varies by case. Once the treatment is finished you'll be smiling with confidence!

What is Orthodontic Veneering?

Orthodontic veneering is a quick, attractive way to get a straight, white smile without the time or discomfort of metal braces. By placing attractive porcelain veneers on the front of the teeth that are visible when you smile, we can reshape your teeth to an attractive, straight and even appearance. The veneers can be used on the top teeth only, or top and bottom teeth. Your smile can be enhanced in only 2 to 3 visits.

How can you replace my missing teeth?

Dr. Kaffey offers two options for tooth replacement: bridges and dental implants.

A dental bridge is a non-removable custom made replacement for one or more missing teeth. The teeth adjacent to the missing teeth are gently reshaped to allow the bridge to be securely anchored to them. Bridges can be made of a many different biocompatible materials. Which material is selected for your bridge depends on many factors including aesthetics and function. Once the natural looking bridge is secured, you can smile, speak and chew with confidence once again.

Dental implants are a safe, medically proven, aesthetic alternative to crowns, bridgework and dentures. Because implants look and feel more like natural teeth, they offer new levels of security and confidence over traditional treatments. A dental implant is a small anchor made of titanium that is inserted in the jawbone to take the place of your missing tooth root. After the surrounding bone has healed to the implant, a replacement tooth is secured to the top of the implant. This new tooth looks, feels and performs similarly to your natural teeth. There are many advantages to implant dentistry including:

What is gum contouring with lasers?

Contouring is basically a simple gum lift, revealing more of the natural tooth, but it makes a tremendous difference to one's smile. First, a topical anesthetic is applied to the gum so the procedure is painless. Then the laser quickly reshapes the gum line creating an even more beautiful smile. The laser seals the gum as it shapes it, promoting healing. Gum contouring is a permanent enhancement. Once done, it endures for the life of your smile.
